This is an unique design hackberry wood Shirasaya Sword. The sword has been created in Shirasaya style with the scabbard and handle becoming one solid piece when the sword is sheathed.
The blade of the sword has been constructed from hand forged heat tempered 1060 carbon steel and it comes sharp with a full tang. This tempered blade provides the correct weight and balance needed for the rigors of repetitive drawing and sword motion practice.
Hoja: The blade has been hand forged through high 1060 carbon steel and secured by a brass habaki collar. The blade comes full tang, sharpened. It is functional and capable of cutting objects such as bamboo / tatami mats / water bottles.
Saya (Vaina): The scabbard has been constructed from high quality hackberry wood with a lacquered finish. It features a four layer strip design and offers a nice grip when holding the saya. The koiguchi (saya throat) features a black protective ring. The design of the scabbard is masterfully done with the wood contouring to the shape of the sword and making the saya fit seamlessly into the handle.
Tsuka (empuñadura): The Tsuka core is also made from the same hackberry wood. It is secured by a single mekugi pin.
