Folded Clay Tempered Japanese Katana with Hadori Polish
Up on sale is a top quality folded clay tempered Katana. It has been polished by the traditional Japanese classical polishing- the Hadori polish (also known as the KEISHO). The Hamon is enhanced by polishing with a coarser abrasive than the body of the blade, leaving it whiter in appearance. In other words, the blade smith uses a stone called Hazuya and whitens the area that makes up the shape of the Hamon.
For those who are not familiar with the making of Japanese swords, Hamon (in Japanese it literally means “blade pattern”) is a visual effect created on the blade by the clay hardening process.
A Hadori finish can be applied to almost any sword. Few people do not like Hadori finish because when it is done too heavily it hides the details of the Hamon, but when it is done well it actually enhances the visibility of the crystalline structures. The ultimate purpose of this procedure is to reveal the best of the hamon.
This katana is equipped with a black iron tsuba, and matching fuchi kashira. The tsuka (handle) is made of hardwood and authentic black ray skin samegawa. The balance of the blade is perfect and the sword is completely functional. It is perfectly suitable for drills, practice and target cutting (tameshigiri).
