This is the complete Hand Forged Sword Set. The Set includes the Katana, Wakazashi, and Tanto. Each sword had been hand forged and meticulously constructed with all authentic materials and fittings. The swords come fully sharpened.

This Higo Tiger Japanese sword set is hand forged and hand sharpened using Japanese methods to create a perfect blade. Fully functional and Battle Ready. The accessories of the sword are all respectable from the white ray skin handle, to golden silk sage-o and handmade tiger fittings. Each blade has been constructed from differentially hardened 1095 carbon steel in maru lamination. The blade comes full tang, sharp, and is fully capable of performing tameshigiri (target cutting).

The full tang construction and excellent heat treat ensure the blades to consistently perform for years to come. Each side of the guard is secured by a bronze spacer (Seppa), this fitting is only found on hand crafted swords. The set comes with three handmade silk sword bags.

Each blade exhibits one of the most appealing Hamon temper lines that is authentic and distinct as a result of the differential hardening process.

How important is differential hardening?

A differentially hardened katana (as opposed case hardened or tempered) has a hardened edge and a soft spine.  The edge is hardened so it will retain a razor sharp edge while the spine is left softer so it will bend and not break.  This is usually done with a traditional clay coating tempering process. Differential hardening is key to making a battle ready katana that will be used for extensive tameshigiri (test cutting).  Our expectation is that a shinken should survive at least 10,000 tatami omote cuts (10 years of heavy use) and only need minor sharpening after every 500 (six months of heavy use).

Hoja: Each blade been hand forged using the ancient method of sword making. Full hand forged, hand polished and hand sharpened.

Each blade was made of T10 steel,  and it has been laminated in a maru style. The tip of the blade is a Chu Kissaki (medium length).

This blades come with a full length Tang which greatly enhances the strength of the sword. The swords are strong enough to cut through a bamboo pole with a single strike yet sharp enough to slice through paper.

Tsuba: The handmade Tsuba (guard) of each sword is made of high quality copper and features a tiger design. The Habiki (blade collar) is a one piece brass construction. Two Seppas (spacer) secure the Tsuba.

Tsuka:  The Tsuka (handle) core is wooden and it is tightly wrapped over authentic white Ray skin Samegawa with a golden silk Ito. The matching tiger Fuchi (collar) and Kashira (buttcap) are also made of high quality copper. The Tang of the sword is secured by two Mekugi (peg) . Two brass Menuki (ornament) are on each side of the Tsuka.

Saya: The saya (sheath) of each sword is rosewood tied in golden silk Sageo. The Koiguchi (saya throat) has been installed with a black protective ring.
